The Best Practice Tips For Self-Storage Units
Whether a way to get the most out of your unit space or preventing damage to your stored items, we have the best practice tips to keep in mind. There are various pratice tips for self-storage that are often passed around, but there are some vital yet simple ways to maximise space and store with perfection in mind. As these are based on circumstances, these tips are in no order, but we still recommend keeping these in mind. Here are the main 5 storage practices you should always use for your self-storage solution.
1) Store Furniture as they Stand
Make the most of the space you have is always a desire, but this shouldn’t compromise your items. It’s important that any furniture you store is positioned exactly as it is designed to retain its quality. This includes delicate and soft-material items like sofas as prolonged pressure on the cushions will deteriorate and compress them over time.
2) Box Up Items Stack and Fit Better
Boxes are a great way to collect many small items together, but they are also the best way to ensure you get the most of your square foot unit. Boxes are a great way to protect your items when placing them into a storage unit, but their structure means that you can allocate space to them fast and efficiently. Its always worth boxes as many items as you can but make sure that the most fragile are at the top of a stack.
3) Place items based on Use
A common mistake when placing items in a storage unit is the order in which they are placed in. This includes leaving the heavier items last and discovering that you have put a useful item at the back. Always ensure that the order you place the items in also reflects the order you wish to take them out. If you’re goal is to move out the heaviest items out first, then placing them in the unit last is the way to go.
4) Bubble Wrap and Covers Always Protect Anything
There is a multitude of uses for bubble wrap and covers but people always neglect one out of the two reasons for their protection. Bubble wrap isn’t just good for packing without damage but also great to ensure that any movement doesn’t damage the item. The same practice tips applies to covers as they are great for protecting items as they are moved along with protection during long time storage. Always ensure that any stored items are protected from both movement and any storage duration using covers and bubble wrap.
5) Move In Steps, Not in One Go
With our units located on the 2nd and 3rd floors, it’s easy to think you need to move all items from vehicles straight into your unit. However, the most effective way to manage your move-in is by coordinating in steps. This includes having at least two or 4 people moving the items to your unit by delegating to certain areas. Divide into two teams, one to send up items to the desire floor, the other to move into the unit. By ensuring everything is on the floor before moving into the unit, you can save time and focus on arranging items into the space.
